Dose Crooks understand Lennie's disability
When Lennie comes to Crooks to see the puppy Crooks will eventually learn that Lennie has a disability. First, he is socially awkward and doesn't know how to talk to Crooks "Lennie smiled helplessly in an attempt to make friends" (68). Lennie then asks why he isn't allowed in the bunkhouse not understanding racism. At this point Crooks understands that Lennie has a disability, and he gives Lennie what he came for "'Well, go see your pup, then" (69). You can tell Crooks understands Lennie, because the tone of his voice is like as if he is talking to a kid. Crooks finds out that Lennie doesn't have bad intentions coming to see him. Crooks feels comfortable with Lennie because Crooks said "'Come on in and sit a while" (69). Crooks now sees more as a friend then an enemy.
