The Dream

I think that American dream is a big theme is this book. This dream effects the characters in different ways. For instance it makes George and Candy hopeful for a better future. But, this dream effects Curley's wife in a different way. This dream makes her feel powerless and it is this powerlessness that makes her so angry. Her dream was to become '''[was to be] in the movies, an' had nice clothes.'''(89) but because of circumstances she was not able to achieve her dream.This idea is looked back apon in the end when Lennie kills Curley's wife, which leads to George not being able to achieve his dreams. This usually ends with the character have to settle for down grade of there dream, like when Curley's wife had to marry Curley even though she did not love Curley. This made her lash out more ,which got Curley pretty mad. Which in turn lead to Lennie demise. This is just what I think though. Write your thoughts in the comments below.
