Part 4, Candy + Carlson are added to the Leadership Ranks

In my last blog, I spoke about where Slim, Curley, George, Lennie, and the Boss of the Ranch's rankings on the Leadership and Responsibility Ranks. In this blog, I will talk about the following names and where they are on the Leadership and Responsibility Ranks. We'll be ranking Candy and Carlson. We'll start off with Candy. Candy is the old man on the ranch, which means he's not as strong as the other ranch-men. Since he's not as strong as the other ranch-men, he isn't given the same job as the others, which is bucking weed, so he's given another job to do, which is to be the swampier, which means he has to sweep the cabin where the other ranch-men sleep and to clean up other places around the ranch. Since he doesn't buck weed like the other ranch-men, he isn't as high in the rankings because the other ranch-men don't know how much leadership he has, nor do they know how honest he has either, which means they can't trust him as much as the other ranch-men, so he's near the bottom of the rankings. Now, I'm going to talk about Carlson. On the ranch, Carlson was a silent ranch-man, but he worked pretty hard, and did some dirty work for his fellow ranch-men, so then the other ranch-men didn't have to do it themselves. Since Carlson takes some hits for the team by doing some of the dirty work so his fellow ranch-men didn't have to do it, he has the trust from most to all of the ranch-men, so he's near the top of the Trustworthy Rankings, but since Carlson is a silent ranch-men, he doesn't take charge of most situations, nor does he want to because he doesn't want to get in the middle of something he doesn't want to be in, so he's near the top of the Leadership Rankings in my opinion because he was the only ranch-men willing to volunteer to shoot Candy's dog, so then Candy didn't have to do it himself, since of how close Candy and the dog were, "Tell you what.  I'll shoot him for you. Then it won't be you that does it"(45). That's why Carlson is near the top of the Leadership Rankings in my opinion because he offered to kill Candy's dog for him, so then Candy didn't have to suffer the pain of killing it himself, and Carlson knew that because a dog is a mans best friend, and Candy's had that dog for 13 years, and the dog was the closest thing Candy had to a family(Candy never mentioned his family, so he must of been abandoned by them or something), and now, he has to shoot it, so Carlson volunteered to do it so Candy didn't have to see the look on his dogs face when it got shot, and that takes a lot of responsibility and leadership to do so. And that's why I put Carlson near the top of the Leadership Rankings, next to Slim, George, and Lennie.
