The Hierarchy of the Ranch
There seems to be hierarchy on the ranch. Some of the workers outrank the others. The boss is on the top of course, as he is the owner of the ranch. Curley seems to be next, although nobody seems to like him. He's the boss's son, so he seems to be on top of all the workers as he has influence over the boss. This is shown when Candy tells George, "Don't tell Curley I said none of this. He'd slough me. He just don't give a damn. Won't ever get canned 'cause his old man's the boss"(27). This shows that Curley may take advantage of the other workers, especially Lennie, by using his advantage of his dad. This may prove to be a problem, as Curley apparently has a dislike for Lennie. Although Lennie didn't provoke Curley, Curley could use his advantage to make some trouble for Lennie and George.
Also, do you also feel like Curley will be the main antagonist in this story, at least so far?

Hi Jon, your hierarchy ratings seem pretty accurate so far. As far as Curley being the antagonist, I can't surely say he'll be the main antagonist, but he is definitely up there. Have you considered that Curley's wife might be a problem? Lennie admits that "She's purty," (32) and we all know that that could be a problem in the future given Lennie's mental disability. He is very naive, and if Curley's wife keeps flirting, he might just accidentally make the wrong move and send George and him running. Does anyone else here think she may be a problem?
